Softset Studios, a brand of AINA Technologies LLC (“we”), makes Mac apps that you buy once. We don’t sell ads and we don’t sell data. AINA Technologies LLC is responsible for the personal data described here.
In short: Softset’s Mac apps do not collect usage analytics. The website uses privacy-conscious analytics to understand traffic and improve the site.
The Mac apps
- No analytics or tracking. The apps contain no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting code that sends data to us or anyone else.
- License activation. When you activate a license, the app sends the license key and an anonymous device ID to softset.app. The device ID is a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware identifier, so it can’t be used to identify your Mac elsewhere. It’s stored with your order so a license is used on the number of Macs it covers. The app re-checks about once a week.
- Update checks. About once a day, each app asks softset.app for the latest version number. The request carries no identifier.
- Softset Bar reads which app is in front, battery and power state, connected displays, and whether you’re online, only to apply the rules you set. If you turn on menu bar search, it reads the names of menu bar items through Accessibility while you search. None of this leaves your Mac.
- Softset Type watches keystrokes to spot your abbreviations. Only the last few characters are held, in memory, and they are never written to disk or sent anywhere. Nothing is read while a password field is active. Your snippets, usage counts, and backups are stored in files on your Mac.
- Softset Pulse reads your Mac’s own performance counters, process list, and listening ports to show them to you. It keeps history on your Mac and sends none of it anywhere.
- Softset Notch keeps clipboard history, shelf files, and timers on your Mac. Calendar access is read-only, for showing your upcoming events. If you connect Stripe, your read-only key is stored in your Mac’s Keychain and requests go directly from your Mac to Stripe, never through Softset.
This website
softset.app uses PostHog for website analytics, in cookieless mode: it sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. PostHog counts visitors with a privacy-preserving hash that changes daily, so it can’t recognise you from one day to the next. We don’t use session recordings, heatmaps, or advertising trackers.
We record:
- Pages viewed, where the visit came from (such as a search engine, a referring site, or campaign tags in the link), and a rough location at country or city level, derived from your IP address, which isn’t stored.
- Device type, browser, and operating system.
- Which products, comparisons, and guides were viewed, and clicks on download, early-access, support, and buy buttons.
- Whether a checkout started and completed, with the product and price.
We never send PostHog your email address, license keys, payment details, or anything from the Mac apps. Analytics requests go through softset.app, and PostHog processes them on our behalf in the United States.
The free tools at softset.app/tools run entirely in your browser. Photos you drop into the metadata tool, text you turn into a QR code, and ports you look up are never uploaded; analytics only records which tool was used.
Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and requested pages) for security and reliability.
Early-access lists
If you join an early-access or launch list, we store your email address with our email provider, Resend, and use it only to tell you about that product’s builds and launch. Every email lets you unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see your full card details. From Stripe we receive your name, email address, country, and what you bought. We use them to deliver and support your license, handle refunds, and meet tax and accounting obligations. License keys are emailed through Resend, and if you ask us to resend a key, we email it only to the address used at checkout.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting. Activation records are kept for the life of your license. Website analytics are kept for up to 12 months. You can ask us to delete anything we don’t need to keep by law.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Email hello@softset.app from the address you bought with.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
